Forbidden Black Rice

Sourced from the fertile valleys of Manipur, Forbidden Black Rice—locally known as Chak Hao—is a heritage grain once reserved for royalty. Naturally deep purple to black in colour, this ancient rice derives its hue from powerful antioxidants (anthocyanins), the same compounds found in blueberries.

Grown in mineral-rich soil and nourished by clean mountain-fed waters, Chak Hao is aromatic, slightly nutty, and turns a dramatic royal purple when cooked. Its texture is gently sticky, making it perfect for festive dishes, soulful bowls, desserts, and contemporary plates that celebrate both nutrition and narrative.
